Jam Drops

Mum baked all the things we grew up on - it wasnt unusual - it was how she grew up and how all her family were fed. On their dairy farms, it was an afternoon ritual to stop each day for afternoon tea, and the biscuit barrell was always filled with home baked goodies! Another of those family recipes, probably at least 50 years old.

3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
2 1/2 tablespoons butter
1 egg
Jam

Cream butter and sugar, add egg and flour. Roll out and form into small buns. Make a hole in the centre and put in jam and close round the jam. Bake on greased tray in moderate oven.

  1. Yum! (It's me, CulinaryJen from Twitter.) I used to make these when I was growing up in Bermuda. We called them Raspberry Buns...as they had raspberry jam. VERY good!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. When you say to roll out into small buns, do you mean to roll into small balls and make a hole in center to place jam. Also could you post a picture. I made them last night very good but not to pretty. I rolled w/a rolling pin cut with a round cookie cutter made an indention placed jam in middle and tried forming dough around the jam. I will have to say it was midnight when I made them.

  5. Nothing like a touch of baking to bring out comfort and nostalgia. Haven't made these for ages, and wishing had made them today. Just come to the end of a marathon baking session and just wondering if I can summon up the energy for just one more round of mixing!

    Loving all the recipes
